Se podría decir que Duran Duran fueron uno de los primeros grupos en triunfar en la MTv. Cuando la cadena musical comenzó a emitir en 1981, eran necesarios artistas que tuvieran cierto impacto visual y ellos lo tuvieron claro desde el principio; sus vídeos estaban cuidados, sus actuaciones eran llamativas y físicamente eran un grupo que destacaban. Simon LeBon, John Taylor y Nick Rhodes realmente tenían estilo.Gracias a que la MTv los ponía a todas horas (y que los artistas negros estaban vetados hasta que llegó Michael Jackson), obtuvieron un enorme éxito a ambos lados del atlántico.
Entre 1981 y 1985 fueron uno de los actos musicales con mayores ventas mundiales (unos 100 millones de discos durante toda su carrera) y un buen puñado de singles Top-10, pero sus fans iban creciendo pero no madurando a la misma velocidad que lo hacía el grupo, que cansado de tanto pop facilón y temas que se mezclaban entre la "Nueva Ola" y el "Synthpop", decidió endurecer su música y acercarse incluso a ritmos mas negros (que ya copaban las listas y a la propia MTv).
"Notorious" es el título del cuarto álbum de la banda y también el nombre del primer single, con producción del gran Nile Rodgers de Chic que lo hace sonar de maravilla.
