Tras la ruptura de The Eagles, Glenn Frey (co-fundador del grupo) continuó por su cuenta y todo gas. A parte de sus discos como solista, Frey llegó a componer para varios artistas e incluso crear "jingles" para anuncios de televisión. También probó suerte como actor.
En 1984 Harold Faltermeyer le llamó para que cantara una de sus canciones para la banda sonora de una película en la que trabajaba como productor. El tema se llamaba "The heat is on" y se convirtió en un gran éxito gracias a la sorpresiva aceptación del público con el film, que fue el mayor pelotazo del año y encumbró a Eddie Murphy a todo lo alto (con lo bien que comenzó su carrera...).
