En 1985 The Commodores editaron en single una de las canciones tributo mas bonitas que se hayan hecho jamás; "Nightshift". El tema estaba dedicado a Marvin Gaye y a Jackie Wilson, 2 de los mas grandes artistas de la música negra que nos habían dejado un año antes.Ahora The Commodores han rehecho la canción para dedicársela a Michael Jackson. Esto no tiene nada que ver con los "homenajes" que otros artistas le han dedicado aprovechando el momento de atención mediática hacia su persona para sacar tajada (mejor no digo nombres), ellos compartieron escenario con él.
The Commodores fueron fichados por la Motown Records en los primeros 70 y durante bastante tiempo fueron teloneros de los Jackson Five hasta que les llegó su momento para despegar, grabar álbumes y tener el éxito que tuvieron poco después (principalmente de la mano de Lionel Richie).
Reconozco que esta versión me ha emocionado muchísimo y la letra me ha hecho llorar especialmente en la estrofa que dice: "Michael, ¿como va todo? ¿Sabe Marvin (Gaye) que estás ahí? ¿Ha aparecido Jackie (Wilson)? Michael, rezo para que nos escuches, porque no pasa un solo día sin que sintamos tu amor y sepamos que estás cerca nuestro"...
Solo la gente que fue tocada por tu magia sabe lo que significa.
