Cuando en 1998 su canción "Breathe" fue usada por SWATCH para una de sus campañas publicitarias (convirtiéndola en un éxito en toda Europa), para mi Midge Ure era un perfecto desconocido pero para el público inglés era uno de los integrantes del grupo Ultravox, uno de los pioneros a finales de los noventa en subirse a esa "Nueva Ola" (New Wave) que llegaba con ideas frescas y que en los primeros 80 tuvo un impacto muy importante.
Anteriormente Ure había formado parte de otros grupos, incluyendo colaboraciones con Thin Lizzy.
En 1984 escribiría junto a Bob Geldof el célebre "Do they know it's christmas?" que daría luego paso al "We are the world". En el 2005 organizaría junto a Geldof, los conciertos del "Live 8" y desde entonces ha continuado ayudando en labores humanitarias.
A mediados de los 80 y tras pasar varios años en Ultravox, decide emprender una carrera en solitario que comienza con un número 1 en single en Inglaterra ("If i was") pero que luego no vuelve a tener repercusión hasta este precioso tema que tuvo que darse a conocer con la comentada anteriormente campaña de relojes para acabar rompiendo y logrando un nuevo éxito.
